Singapore’s election is over, it was harsh and grueling for 9 days that accumulated to the  wee morning of 8th May when the results were announced, first of all I would like to pay respect to Mr. Chiam See Tong, who left Potong Pasir SMC (Single Member Constituency) to contest in Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC (Group Representation Constituency). He says he is not a brave man, but he loves Singapore and he loves Singaporeans, and I think it takes a whole lot of courage to say that in front of many people and in doing so, I think he has won the respect and the hearts of many.

Now on to business, the PAP has won the General Election, unsurprisingly but the stats show that the amount of voters they are getting is getting less and less, this time, their total votes was around 60% of the total voters, so it means they are no longer in as much control as they would have liked. I am still thinking how is it that the NSP (National Solidarity Party) managed to lose out to the PAP’s representation in Marine Parade GRC, was it because Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong was there? Because all I can see is that there are threats being tossed around by the PAP and there was even one threatening the Aljunied Residents that they will, and I quote, “repent  for 5 years if they vote for the Worker’s Party”. So what Minister Mentor Lee is saying is that people will regret voting for the Worker’s Party because they did not vote for the PAP? Are they down to a point where they are actually saying ‘if you don’t vote for us, you are wrong.’?

“Without the elected president and if there is a freak result, within two or three years, the army would have to come in and stop it”  - Lee Kuan Yew
What is a freak result in election? What does he define as a freak result? The PAP losing? If the PAP loses in the election this would mean that the people didn’t vote for them, so what he defines as a freak result is that people didn’t vote for the PAP. So he is saying, ‘vote for the PAP as it is the only right choice.’  Then what is the point of having an election? It will be much better of if he went door to door of people’s houses asking them ‘do you vote for the PAP?’ and if the answer is no, he just shoots them in the head because it is not the right answer. He is saying as though the PAP option in the polling card is the right answer to a math question, but he fails to understand that the polling card is a CHOICE, and people have the freedom to choose what they wand and who they want to be represented by.

Now, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan  is the Minister of Community and Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), now he managed to cock up the YOG budget of $104million and ended up spending nearly 3 times that amount, now that was a big cock up and the people of Holland-Bukit Timah seem to think that it is not so bad that he is inside spending your money on YOG, attracting foreign table tennis players. But the fact of the matter is this, it was a massive cock up and it is one that he tries to defend, he says it is the first time an event like this is held and details were only firmed up after the bid, so why wasn’t the research done? It’s like a child seeing an advertisement on a toy for sale and without thinking asks his mom for $10 and goes to the toy store, not knowing that the toy may cost $50 or more. Are we really waiting for the PAP to cock up more before we wake up? In 5 years time it really could be too late.

On the issue on money, the issue on public transport. To put it very simply, it is making a profit, why is that? Singapore is a country, so why is public transport making money off people? Shouldn’t it be just to ferry people to where they need to go for those who cannot afford cars (most of Singaporeans). What public transport should be is the money they receive should be for maintaining the standard of the Public transport only and not so they can make a profit off people. Buses are expensive, the trains are expensive, cars are expensive, sooner there will come a time where people won’t be able to afford public transport all together. So if the PAP are going to listen more to the people (for some reason they have not been listening as much as they could  have) the first order of business should be to stop running Singapore like a company where the main focal point is to make money, run Singapore like a country because at the moment, it does not feel like one.
